4. Bits of the game script

I've selected some bits of the game script that are somehow related to Walter and copied them here, as additional information. I've added them as scenes, with the dialogue itself and explaining the moment and circumstances where it takes place, so you can remember if you don't.

All the scenes are in the same order as in the game.

THE SUBWAY WORLD

I. Walter kills Cynthia

Henry is heading to the end of the subway world, searching for the exit and for Cynthia as well, who seems to be quite scared because she feels like if someone is following her and wants to hurt her... suddenly, Cynthia's voice can be heard over a teleprompter:

" ...Henry, I found the exit. Come to the turnstile... Henry, I found the exit. Come to the turnstile......Hurry, hurry...! It's him...! He's coming!"

Obviously she's talking about Walter, who's chasing her to kill her, as she's been chosen as the 16th victim - the sacrifice themed as Temptation.

RETURN FROM THE SUBWAY WORLD

I. 16121

When Henry is back home after having found Cynthia's body, he discovers that what has just happened wasn't a dream or hallucination, but real, as he heards Ambulance sirens outside and once he looks out the window he says they're entering the subway station. Then suddenly we can listen to bits of a conversation between two people (policemen I guess) making the first reference to the Walter's Sullivan case; though the "Walter Sullivan case" itself isn't mentioned yet...

"Hurry up and get that ambulance... "
"Quit yappin' and move her already!"
"Damn...she's got numbers carved into her chest. I wonder if..."
" .........."

FOREST WORLD

I. First encounter with Jasper

At the beginning of the Forest world, you stumble upon Jasper, who's near the strange rocks that are near the Wish House and that seem to be some kind of totem used for rituals - by the natives in ancient times, and that now are also by "those people" - meaning the cult's people. Jasper tells Henry a bit about those stones and about the Wish House as well, about what they were doing there. He also mentions "a nosy guy" who's been wandering around the woods, and who had been taking a look to the stone as well. This nosy guy was, indeed, Walter.

"S-So y-you c-came...t-to investigate th-this stone t-oo... Th-There was a another g-guy here before... A...a...a real nosy guy...B-B-But I was the one, one who f-found this s-stone first...

I-I-In the o-old d-days, th-the n-n-natives called it... "N-Na-Nahkeehona"... Th-They used it in a...a ceremony...f-f-for talkin'...with their dead
ancestors. A-And n-now...th-th-those guys are, are usin' it too... C-C-Call it the "m-mother stone". Th-They're just u-up, up ahead, in that, that weird building... Op-Operatin' s-some kinda c-crazy re-religious cult... Th-They u-used to c-c-c-collect o-orphans... And, and, and...d-d-did things to 'em...

K-K-Kinda g-gives you the ch-chills, huh? This stone...Y-Y-Yeah...g-g-gives me the ch-ch-chills..."

----

II. First encounter with the kid

When Henry reaches the graveyard near Toluca Lake, the one where Walter's mortal body was buried (and later taken away from its grave) some years ago, he finds a little boy standing in the middle of the dark, all alone, and approaches him.

"Hey, little boy, what are you doing here?"

Suddenly Jasper appears and says something weird we still can't understand, about the Third Revelation, and already mentions that "nosy guy" who had been there...

"You're...F-Finally...the Th-Third Revelation... S-Something's g-gonna happen...Th-That n-nosy guy that was here... H-He said it too... Something big's gonna happen...Finally, it's gonna happen!"

After that scene, Jasper walks away laughing and the little boy runs away, without giving Henry the chance to know who is he.

----

III. Chocolate milk

It seems Walter was trying to use Jasper as a mediator between himself and Henry... I'm sure he wanted Jasper to tell Henry everything he had been telling him first. And now Walter, "the nosy guy", has given Jasper something important, the key item Henry will need in order to get the key to open the Wish House door. Jasper will give that thing to Henry in exchange of that yummy bottled chocolate shake you can find inside Room 302 fridge.

"Th-Th-The d-d-door won't open...Th-That n-n-nosy guy g-g-gave me something really good... I... I... I... I c-could l-l-let you have it...bu-bu-but not for free.

I'm really th-thirsty...I'm so, so th-thirsty... Oh, chocolate... Oh, chocolate... I'm really thirsty... I'm so, so thirsty... I want some chocolate milk..."

----

IV. I've met the Devil...

A little after he enters the Wish House, with Jasper following him, Henry listen some weird noises in the room with the "Source" placard hanged in the door, and once he takes the placard and enters the room he finds Jasper there, in fire. While he dies burned alive, Jasper mentions the "nosy guy" again, and claims to have met finally the Devil, as he told him it would happen (and if you're interested in knowing what the words he says mean exactly, read this page if you still haven't done so)

"I finally met him! The one the nosy guy talked about... the Devil!"

RETURN FROM THE FOREST WORLD

I. The Walter Sullivan case

When Henry is back at his room after witnessing Jasper's death, a radio broadcast begins suddenly. This is the first time we get a direct reference to the Walter Sullivan's case:

"A special news report... In a forest near Silent Hill, the burned corpse of a 30-year-old male was discovered earlier today. The police have ruled it a homicide and are investigating. The numbers "17121" were reportedly carved into the man's body. Due to the marks on the victim, the police are investigating
possible links to the Walter Sullivan case 10 years ago..."

WATER PRISON WORLD

I. Walter's gonna kill me!

This is the first encounter with Andrew DeSalvo, before we get to know even his name. He's lccked up in a jail cell and asks Henry for help...

"He's...he's gonna kill me! Walter's gonna kill me! He...he's gonna kill me! Get me out... Get me the out of here."

----

II. The little boy again

This scene is quite important as it's the one where we know at last that that little boy is actually Walter Sullivan, and the whole Holy mother thing is mentioned for first time as well:

Henry finds the little boy again along with Andrew, now out of the cell because Henry has managed to open its door thanks to the mechanism in the upper surveillance room. At the moment Henry sees them, the boy is leaving and he decided to talk to Andrew.

(Henry) "Who is that boy? And who are you?"

(Andrew) "His name's Walter...Walter Sullivan. I used to work at the orphanage, watching the kids... I'm Andrew DeSalvo. They tried to make it seem like an orphanage...But according to that town's Holy Scriptures, it was actually the
centerof their religion...
That kid, Walter... He was really into that mumbo jumbo... Especially that "Descent of the Holy Mother" business...
Scary... My God... Oh...oh, my God..."

After that scene, Andrew walks away.

RETURN FROM THE WATER PRISON

I. The umbilical cord

Personally this is one of the weirdest dialogues in the game. This is the first time we know about that umbilical cord Frank Sunderland keeps in his room, and honestly, when this happened I thought I couldn't have heard it well. But I guess it's understandable - why would a person want to keep a thing like that, anyway?

(Eileen) "How's it going with Room 302?"

(Frank) "Well...I, uh, just tried to open it up, but it looks like somethin's, uh...blockin' it from the inside. Anyway, it's not the first time..."

(Eileen) "You mean...the guy who lived here before...?"

(Frank) "And it wasn't just him, either. There's, uh, somethin' wrong with this
whole apartment..."

(Eileen) "Don't say that... You're scaring me..."

(Frank) "Well, anyway, I just slipped a note under his door. Don't worry about it too much. There are a...lot of strange things in this world..."

(Frank, most likely speaking aloud to himself) "The umbilical cord I keep in a box in my room... Lately, it's started to smell terrible..."

(Eileen) "Huh? Umbilical cord...?"

(Frank) "Oh, forget I said anything..."

(Eileen) "But still, those noises..."

THE BUILDING WORLD

I. First encounter with Richard

Right at the beginning of the Building world, Richard falls from the sky and appears suddenly next to Henry. Both men had a conversation thanks to which we definitely get to know that something really weird happened to the person who lived right before Henry in Room 302...

(Richard) "Ouch! Dammit... Where the hell am I...?"

(Richard, after pointing his revolver at Henry) "Ah, you're a real person... Hey, you're the guy that lives across from me..."

(Henry) "Yeah, my name's Henry."

(Richard) "I'm Richard Braintree, from 207."

(Henry does the gesture of shaking hands with Richard, but Richard ignores him)

(Richard) "What the hell's happened to us? That hole...and this freaky world... But if you're here too... then there must be something wrong with the whole apartment building... That must explain what happened to that other guy too..."

(Henry) "What "other guy"?"

(Richard) "The guy who lived in 302 before you... A journalist...he disappeared one day. He got pretty crazy towards the end... Shut himself up in his room and wouldn't come out... Anyway... I'm gettin' the hell out of here. You should, too - if you know what's good for you."

(Henry) "Wait..." (Richard stops) "Watch out for that kid." (Richard enters a door and leaves)

----

II. Richard and Walter

In one of the elevators of the building, we can watch a cutscene where Richard has found little Walter. Weird enough, he doesn't notice he's the same kid he used to throw out from South Ashfield Heighst some years ago. He only thinks they look alike... but anyway, who in his right mind would think is the same kid?

(Richard) "Are you the kid he was talkin' about? You live in that apartment too, huh? Say...you look a lot like a little punk that I once caught sneakin' around there... Do you know somethin' about what's goin' on?!"

(Walter runs away)

(Richard) "Hey! Hey, you! Stop!"

----

III. Richard dies

One of the most disgusting scenes in the game is this one, in my opinion, Henry witnesses Richard's death, being strapped to an electric chair and dying electrocuted. For a brief moment, Henry sees the little Walter next to the window of Richard's Room, pointing somewhere outside, but he disappears all of a sudden. While Richard dies he says, once more, what the true identity of that little boy is.

"A...a...a...a...a...k...k...k..."kid"...!? Th...th...th...th...that's n...n...no kid.. It's...th...the 11121...m...m...man..."

What makes me think is that he says "the 11121 man" to refer to Walter. Does it mean Richard followed the Walter Sullivan's case, and that's why he know he was marked with the 11121 number, as he was the 11th victim? But how could he know? Is it a game mistake, or does Richard know more than we thought? Or did Walter tell him something before killing him?

----

*Note: in some moment while you're at the building world, if you go back to Room 302 (I don't remember if you must do it or it's entirely optional, but it should happen now) if you look through the peephole you'll see a message has appeared in the corridor's wall, where all the bloody handprints were: "BETTER CHECK ON YOUR NEIGHBOR SOON!" This message, obviously written by Walter as he's trying to prepare you for Richard's death (or maybe Eileen being attacked?) will disappear and the handprints will come back as they were.

RETURN FROM THE BUILDING WORLD

I. The next one

Henry looks outside through his window and sees a man in Richard's room, where the boy was while Richard was dying, doing exactly the same: pointing somewhere outside... exactly to Eileen's room. This is the first time we see Walter in his adult form, though we can't see him really well.

"There's a man in 207, pointing his finger... He's pointing...at room 303... Eileen's room?"

----

II. 19121

Before leaving to the next world, you can hear another familar police report on Henry's radio. At this point the plot is getting more and more complicated, because in case you didn't remember (or you didn't know) from Silent Hill 2, this conversation lets you know that Walter is, indeed, dead - or that's what it seems at least. So who's the one who's comitting all these horrible murders then...?

".........."

"Looks like another one, captain...

" ...got "1...121"... on his head..."

"It's just like that case from 10 years ago..."

"Yeah, that Walter Sullivan case..."

"But Sullivan's dead. They even got the body..."

"Must be some crazy copycat..."

"Yeah, but even so.."

APARTMENT WORLD

I. Meeting Walter

The first meeting with Walter. Actually the only normal one we could say. Once Henry realizes the place he has appeared in this time looks so much like his own apartment (except for the blood, the ghosts... well, you get the idea), he goes out to the corridor and sees that long-haired man with the coat knocking on Eileen's door and then leaving. He goes out to the stairs as well and finds the man sitting there, and when he approaches him, the man talks to him:

"I got this from Miss Galvin a long, long time ago... She was younger than me back then... She looked so happy holding her
mother's hand... Here, I'll give it to you..."

Weird words, really, but I've already told you what I think these words exactly mean. Besides, they're nothing compared with the circumstances you'll meet Walter later in game...

----

II. Young Walter and Eileen

This scene is the one we can use to confirm that little Walter's spirit is actually good, harmless, because he has tried to protect Eileen from the man with the coat. Something we see more clearly later on, in the conversation Eileen and Henry have at the Hospital.

"Hey kid... Thanks... Did you find your mommy...? This place...it's dangerous... You need... Hurry and get out of here..."

FOREST WORLD - SECOND VISIT

(Note: Before this point, you can find the scene where Henry appears in the Hospital searching for Eileen and finds there the long-haired man, who's doing something quite disturbing with a corpse and tries to attack him, or at least that's what it seems. There have been as well some conversations between Henry and Eileen that talk vaguely about Walter and the investigations Joseph was doing about him and the cult, with Eileen wondering if Joseph could possibly be still alive as well. Also, at the end of the second visit to the Subway world, takes place the first appearance of Walter chasing after Henry and Eileen and trying to kill them)

----

I. Meeting little Walter again

Henry finds again little Walter in his second visit to the Forest World, and finally manages to talk to him.

(Henry) "Are you...Walter Sullivan?"

(Walter) "That's what everybody calls me, but I don't really have a name. Or a home either..."

(Henry) "Well, what about a mom or dad?"

(Walter) "Yeah...but I never met 'em... They left South Ashfield Heights right after I was born. But soon I'll get to see my mom."

(Henry) "Do you know where she is now?"

(Walter) "Yeah, of course -- right where I was born. Lots of people tried to stop me, but it's fine now. It says in the Scriptures that I'll be with her. I gotta hurry. Mom's waiting..."

BUILDING WORLD - SECOND VISIT

I. Walter meets Walter

Walter can be seen in this cutscene in his two different forms/incarnations: the young one and the adult one, talking to each other. This is a key scene in my opinion, with more interesting information than it seems at first. I've already explained a bit on this scene in this page.

(Young Walter) "I'm going to see my mom! Stay outta my way! Who are you, anyway?"

(Walter) "My name's Walter. Walter Sullivan. It's time to complete the "21 Sacraments."

(Young Walter) "But that's my name... And what are the "21 Sacraments"?"

(Walter) "Don't worry. You'll know soon enough. Well, let's go and see Mother..."

APARTMENT WORLD - SECOND VISIT

I. Meeting Joseph

Right before you come outside to the Apartment's twisted world, Henry and Eileen find themselves at the Room 302 of the past and meet there someone really interesting: Joseph's ghost, hidden in darkness, who says some important word to them about what has happened and what has yet to happen.

"You've done well to make it this far.
Let me tell you something about "him," Walter Sullivan...
When he was a little boy, he began to believe that my apartment was actually his birth mother. He decided to "free" her from the stains and corruption of this world. At the orphanage, he learned of the "21 Sacraments," the only way to purify her. He then performed the ceremony of the "Holy Assumption" and created this... twisted world.
Now...he's become nothing more than an inhuman killing machine... Well, he's dead now... but he's trying to complete...the "21 Sacraments."
His boyhood desire...to return to the bosom of his birth...has divided him... Now his child self...has manifested itself in this world... And soon, he is planning to finish his work... The... 21... Sacraments...
Number 20... "The Mother Reborn"... Eileen Galvin...
Number 21... "The Receiver of Wisdom"... Henry Townshend...
Even now...it may not be...too late...
Follow the...Crimson Tome... Stop him...
If not...wherever you run... He will catch you...
Find...him... His...true location...
It must be nearby... You must kill...him...
You must kill him...
Kill...... Kill...
Kill...... Kill......
Hurry...
She's being taken over... She's Number 20... "The Mother Reborn"...
The Crimson Tome...
Obey the Crimson Tome...
Kill him... Must...kill...him...
Kill...... Kill......
Kill...... Kill..."

THE FINAL BATTLE

Eileen feels really sorry for Walter, knowing his parents threw him out right after he was born, and would like to help him. Right before the final battle, Eileen says some final words to Henry before running away to where Walter is:

"It's Walter... He's crying... Even finishing the 21 Sacraments... It won't help that boy... I'm going back, Henry... To the room where he is... We're the only ones... The only ones that can stop him."

Already in the battle arena, Eileen has been possessed and starts to walk to the gigantic ball in the middle of the room. Meanwhile, Young Walter knocks the door of Room 302 trying to get in, and Walter talks to Henry just before the final battle begins at last...

(Young Walter) "Mom! Mom! Let me in...Mom!"

(Walter) "Hey there, little Walter... Just a little longer now... Henry... You're it... the last of the 21 Sacraments... The "Final Sign"... The "Receiver of Wisdom""
